Former NFL player Henry Ruggs has been sentenced to three-to-10 years in prison for his role in crash that killed a 23-year-old woman and her dog in November 2021.

The 24-year-old Ruggs was sentenced in Las Vegas courtroom on Wednesday. He could have faced 50 years behind bars but reached a plea deal in May, agreeing to plead guilty to one felony count of DUI.

Ruggs, who had played for Las Vegas Raiders, apologized to the family of Tina Tintor, who died in the accident along with her dog Max.

‘To the parents and family of Ms. Tintor, I sincerely apologize for the pain and suffering my actions the morning of Nov. 2, 2021 have caused you, your family and those who knew Ms. Tina and Max,’ he said in the courtroom, according to TMZ.

‘I let my family, my teammates and those who believed in me down with my actions and hurt so many.’

A coroner ruled that Tintor burned to death in the accident. Ruggs was apparently driving at 156mph seconds before the accident and slammed into the back of Tintor’s car, a Toyata, at 127mph.

The speed limit in the area was 45mph and Ruggs had a blood-alcohol level twice legal limit when he crashed at around 3:30am.

Hours before the crash, Ruggs was filmed partying at a TopGolf in Vegas.

Ruggs posted $150K bail to be freed from jail after leaving the hospital following the crash and has remained on house arrest for 18 months with strict conditions including alcohol checks.

Ruggs, who played as a wide receiver for the Raiders, could conceivably play in the NFL again after Wednesday’s sentencing.

The Raiders released him after the collision on November. Ruggs was the first-round Draft pick for the team in 2020, from Alabama.

He grew up in Montgomery, Alabama, and won an NCAA championship with the Crimson Tide before he was drafted by the Raiders in 2020.

He signed a four-year rookie contract reported to be worth more than $16million and had been emerging as a star NFL player before the crash. Records show he bought a $1.1million home in April 2021, not far from the scene of the crash.

Ruggs’ girlfriend, Je’nai Kilgo-Washington, was injured in the crash. The couple have a daughter together, who was born in May 2020.

‘I pledge to be the father and the man God intended me to be,’ Ruggs said in the courtroom before being led away in handcuffs to begin his sentence.
